College Corner

ADULTS looking to sample study at St Helens College before enrolling in September can try a free Bite-size Booster.

Bite-size Boosters are two or three-hour taster sessions for adults. They show you how to boost your qualifications, skills, career prospects and confidence, and are the ideal preparation for Level 2 study in September. There are no entry requirements, course fees or exams and you can try as many as you like. And now you can enrol 'online'!

Spaces are still available in the following subjects: Ceramics, Jewellery, Drawing and Painting, Photography/Digital Photography, Life Drawing, Interior Design, Accounts and Bookkeeping, Payroll, Catering, Office Technology, Journalism, Writing, Storytelling, Radio Production, Music Technology, Performing Arts, Animal Care, Equine Studies, Floristry, Horticulture and Conservation.

For details of how to reserve your place, access www.sthelens.ac.uk/Bite-Size, or ring Freephone 0800 996699.

ST HELENS College has a long history and excellent reputation for both the range and quality of its higher and professional programmes, many of which are validated by universities, including Liverpool John Moores, Salford, Huddersfield, Sheffield Hallam and Central Lancashire.

The college also has modern, industry-standard facilities and resources, a high level of staff expertise and has achieved excellent results in recent academic reviews.

Staff understand that entering further or higher education is a major decision for adults, who often have to juggle a busy home or working life with the demands of attending college. That's why we offer a range of programmes that can be studies on an extended day or evening-only basis, allowing people in employment, or those with limited time available, the opportunity to study towards a higher qualification.

Don't worry if you don't have formal entry requirements, as many adults without these often have the necessary background and experience to enable them to benefit from, and successfully complete, higher programmes.

Need to know more? Then visit the Higher Education and Professional Programmes Open Evening on Monday, July 3 at Skills North West Conference Centre in Water Street, St Helens. The evening will be very informal and you are welcome to drop in any time between 5 and 7.30pm to find out more about the college's range of professional programmes, honours degrees, foundation degrees, HNCs and HNDs. Staff will be on hand to provide you with any advice and guidance you may require.

For further details contact Student Services on Freephone 0800 99 66 99.

A TEAM of big-hearted staff from St Helens College made a major contribution towards the fight against breast cancer when they took part in a Race for Life event at Sherdley Park.

The result of their charitable efforts is rapidly approaching the £3,000 mark.

However, pride of place in the fund-raising stakes goes to college print room supervisor Pat Swain.

The mother-of-two and grandmother-of-three raised the fantastic sum of £1,016 towards the grand total.

Pat would like to thank family, friends and work colleagues for their generous sponsorship, help and support.
