Nicola's peak challenge

WHEN she learned her great granny had been diagnosed with breast cancer, Nicola Sheridan decided to do something to raise awareness of the disease.

So the 20-year-old, from Newtown and her partner Thomas Middlehurst (21) decided to raise money for Against Breast Cancer by taking part in the charity's sponsored hike up the UK's largest mountain Ben Nevis in October.

Nicola, whose great gran, 84-year-old Evelyn Barrow, lives in Thatto Heath, said: "Although we need to raise money to fund the trip, we are both determined to get as much as we can for the charity. We haven't started training yet and we know it's going to be hard, but from what I have seen, it looks an amazing experience."

The couple have already been backed by several local businesses and are looking to hold a raffle to boost their funds.

If you want to help, donations can be sent to Against Breast Cancer, Upper Dicconson Street, Wigan, WN1 2AG.
