Newton-le-Willows AA Match & fishery News

National Team Open Match, Sunday 27-8-06,

The match was fished on the Upper Pound section of the Sankey Canal, twenty anglers fished, all caught fish.

The winner on peg 59 was Paul Brown (Newton AA) fishing worm and caster, alternating long and short pole he caught bream and silver fish for 24lbs-4ozs-0drms.

Second place went to Dave Lloyd, (Leigh) on peg 61 with a similar catch of bream and silver fish on pole for 20-13-6.

Third placed was Brian Aspinall( Golborne) fishing off peg 23, again with bream and silver fish on pole at 8 metres for 19-0-0.

Fishery news: The weather has at last brought the much needed rain, all waters in the region could do with a top up of fresh water, weed growth is at an all time high for this time of year and in some cases choking shallow fisheries.

Despite the low water levels fishing at Newton- le-Willows AA waters is very good.

All three sections of the Sankey Canal that we control are turning some great catches of silver fish 20lbs is on the cards on any of them, along with carp, bream, tench and perch. Day tickets are available on the Upper/Lower pounds £4 adult and £1-50 junior.
