Latchford 18 Bold Miners 28

UNDER strength Miners outfit came away with the 2 points despite not being at their best.

Early Latchford pressure and Bold's inability to control the ball saw them go 2-0 ahead via a penalty goal.

Bold then started to build some pressure of their own and were rewarded when good defensive work from the scrum from Matty Garner resulted in Latchford spilling the ball. New signing David Winstanley kicked ahead and collected to cross over. Winstanley converted to see Bold go 6-2 in the lead.

Bold were now on top with forwards Ian Lynch and Paul Johnson laying the platform in attack and defence. Substitute Paul Rigby then combined well with Darren Anders to send Anders over. The conversion was missed but Bold now had a healthy 10-2 lead.

Latchford again came back in to it and scored a well worked try before half time to see the sides go in at the break 10-8 to Bold.

Substitute Kelvin Walkden proved to be the gamebreaker for Bold in the second half.

His neat footwork saw him go through the Latchford defence to put hooker Ian Honey for the first of his hat trick of tries. Anders converted to take Bold in to a 16-8 lead.

Bold could not shake Latchford off and poor defence led to another score from the Warrington outfit.

However a carbon copy of the previous try saw Walkden break the line again and offload to the supporting Honey once more. 22-12 to Bold. Once again Latchford hit back to score a try in the corner. The touchline conversion made it 22-18 to Bold, and a tense finish was now set up.

Bold's outside backs now started to come in the game with Ste Dumphy, Lee Mayor and Mike Noonan to the fore. However, it was again Walkden who ripped Latchford apart to put Honey in to seal the game for the Miners at 28-18.

Next week Bold entertain Simms Cross. Kick off 2.30pm
